Port Owen Marina Authority (POMA) is responsible for the maintenance and control
of the waterways, boating and ancillary facilities at Port Owen Marina.
POMA's present constituent members are
- the Bergrivier Municipality,
- the 3 Time-share companies,
- Port Owen Yacht Club ,
- Port Owen Property Owners Association
- Admiral Island Home Owners Association.
Each of these organizations has one or more directors serving on the POMA board. Other organizations with a bona fide interest in the waterways and a minimum membership of 50 may apply for membership of POMA. In this way all the people who use the marina have a say in the running of the Marina, together the Municipality who own the waterways.
Directors are nominated by the member organizations and may serve on the board for as long as the member organization wishes them to. These directors represent their organization in discussions and decisions taken by the board, and may report back on such discussions and decisions to their organization.
The properties on a 99 year lease to POMA (since 2000) include
- the waterways of the main basin (erf 923)
- the canal (erf 1974)
- and all adjacent private open spaces.
- In addition, the servitude, gardens and certain of the parking areas between the slipway and the entrance to Harbour Lights (remainder erf 592) also fall under POMA's jurisdiction.
In terms of the lease agreement, POMA is entitled to the benefit of all income earning activities that may be derived from these properties whilst having the obligation of maintaining all retaining walls, embankment supports, jetties, slipways, pathways, etc.
